Have you ever watched or read Peter Pan? In it, a boy named Peter Pan stays a child forever because he lives in a fictional land called Neverland, where a child remains a child forever. While it may seem fun to stay a kid forever, in reality, childhood doesn't last forever and every child must grow up, just like their parents did. Growing up is important. Is part of life. Is coming to the next level of our life.
Here are some explanations for why maturing is crucial:
Personal Development: As people mature, they can form their thoughts, values, and beliefs. It promotes critical thinking and aids in the development of a distinct identity.
Responsibility: As we mature, we learn to accept accountability for the choices and acts we make. Success in both your personal and professional life depends on this.
Independence: Developing greater independence is a sign of growing up. Being independent is essential for overcoming the challenges of adulthood.
Relationships: Mature relationships are based on mutual respect, trust, and understanding. These traits are developed via growing up.
Contribution to Society: Adults make contributions to society in a variety of ways, including employment, volunteer work, and raising the next generation.
1 Corinthians 13:11: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” This lyric emphasises how childhood ends and maturity begins. It highlights the need for us to evolve out of our immature ways and develop mature thinking and behaviour as we become older.
Ephesians 4:15: “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” This text exhorts us to preach the truth in love while developing ourselves in all areas to resemble the head of the church, Jesus Christ.
Luke 2:52: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This verse illustrates Jesus' balanced development by narrating his rise in knowledge, stature, and favour with God and people.
1 Samuel 2:26: “And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.” Samuel's increase in favour with the Lord and with mankind is mentioned in this line, demonstrating his social and spiritual maturation.
Growing up is a normal and essential aspect of being human. It entails transitioning from childhood's naivety and dependence to adulthood's maturity and independence. This shift is characterised by substantial personal development, the emergence of a sense of accountability, and the capacity to build deep connections. As evidenced by the verses above that highlight the passage from childhood to adulthood and the corresponding increase in wisdom and favour with God and man, the Bible also emphasises the value of growing up.
