Unrivaled God

In the Bible, God is portrayed as the sovereign Creator and sustainer of all things. He is both incomprehensible and knowable. Christians recognize that God has made Himself distinctly known through the revelation of His Word. The transcendent God reveals Himself in Scripture—by His names and attributes—to be eternally self-existent in all His perfections. One of His remarkable attributes is infinity—He is self-existing, without origin. As Colossians 1:17 states, “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” His understanding is beyond measure (Psalm 147:5). While fully comprehending God’s nature is impossible for us as limited beings, we can begin to grasp His awesomeness through what He reveals about Himself in His Word and creation.

What are some other attributes of God?

In addition to being self-existent and infinite, God is described with several other attributes in the Bible:

Omnipotence: God is all-powerful. He can do anything that aligns with His character and purpose (Matthew 19:26).

Omniscience: God is all-knowing. He has perfect knowledge of everything, including the past, present, and future (Psalm 147:5).

Omnipresence: God is everywhere at once. He is not limited by time or space (Jeremiah 23:24).

Eternal: God exists outside of time. He has no beginning or end (Psalm 90:2).

Immutable: God does not change. His character, promises, and purposes remain constant (Malachi 3:6).

Love: God’s love is sacrificial, unconditional, and extends to all people (1 John 4:8).

Holiness: God is perfectly pure and separate from sin (Isaiah 6:3).

Justice: God is fair and righteous. He judges sin and rewards righteousness (Psalm 89:14).

Mercy and Grace: God shows compassion and forgiveness to those who repent (Ephesians 2:4-5).

Faithfulness: God is faithful to His promises and covenant (Deuteronomy 7:9).

Remember that these attributes are revealed through Scripture, and our understanding of God grows as we seek Him and study His Word.

What does it mean for God to be holy?

God's holiness is a fundamental quality that distinguishes Him from all other created entities. It represents His total moral purity and perfection. Saying that God is holy acknowledges that He is above all, transcendent, and sinless. His holiness consists of transcending (being above all) and separating (from sin). God's holiness is essentially a representation of His perfect morality and righteousness.

In summary the phrase “unrivaled God” emphasizes that God is incomparable and supreme. In the Bible, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27) . This verse highlights God’s unique authority and power, demonstrating that only He can accomplish what seems impossible to us. Whether parting the Red Sea for the Israelites or raising Lazarus from the dead, God’s actions testify to His unrivaled abilities
