The Wedding at Cana

Jesus' mother was present at a wedding in the Galilee town of Cana. The wedding was also extended an invitation to Jesus and his disciples.

Their wine ran out, and Jesus's mother told him, "They have no wine."

"Woman, how does your concern affect me?" Jesus asked her. My time is still not here.

"Do whatever he tells you," his mother commanded the waitstaff.

Six stone water jars, each containing twenty to thirty litres, were present for Jewish ceremonial washings. Then Jesus commanded them to "fill the jars with water." So they piled it high. Following that, he instructed them to "draw some out and take it to the headwaiter." They then filled the cup and handed it to the headwaiter. Furthermore, even though the servers who had drawn the water understood whence it originated, the headwaiter was unaware of its origin until he tasted water that had turned into wine.

The headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one: but you have kept the good wine until now."

Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.
