Sweet Jesus episode 8: The Lost Son

A dad with two sons lived in that world. "Father, give me my share of the estate," requested the younger son to his father. Thus, the father gave his two sons a share of his possessions. The younger son subsequently left for a far-off nation, where he wasted his money on extravagant lifestyle. A devastating famine struck the region after he had spent everything, leaving him in dire straits. He even yearned to consume the pods the pigs were eating, as he hired himself out to feed them.

The younger son had an epiphany and considered his father's hired helpers, who had an ample supply of food. He made the decision to go back home and own up to his errors. "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you," he had in mind to say. "Make me like one of your hired servants; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”

His father spotted him from a distance on the way back and was moved with sympathy. Running to his son, the father gave him a hug and a kiss. The son said, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you," to start his planned speech. "that I no longer deserve to be referred to as your son."

But the father interrupted him, full of love. He gave his attendants instructions to put sandals on his feet, put a ring on his finger, and bring the finest robe. "This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found," so they were to arrange a feast and celebrate.

The eldest son was laboring in the field in the meantime. He went to find out what was going on when he heard music and dancing coming from the house. He was told by a servant that their father had arranged a feast in honor of his younger brother's return.

But the older son lost his cool and declined to partake in the celebrations. "All these years, I've faithfully served you, yet you never gave me even a young goat to celebrate with my friends," he told his father. "But you butcher the fattened calf for your prodigal son when he returns after wasting his fortune!"

"My son, you are always with me and everything I have is yours," the father tenderly said. "However, we had to rejoice and celebrate your brother's resurrection because he had been lost and then found."
