Following the over 5,000 people being miraculously fed, the throng flocked to Jesus in an attempt to gain more knowledge from him. They had a lot of questions for him when they found him.
After Jesus fed the five thousand people miraculously, it took the throng of people some time to locate him. They followed him after learning of his numerous previous miracles. "Rabbi, when did you come here?" they enquired after they eventually located him.
"Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me because you have had enough of the bread," answered Jesus. "Work for the food that lasts for eternal life, not for the nourishment of this world. This will be given to you by the Son of Man."
"What signs are you going to give us, so that we may see it and believe you?" They questioned him "In the desert, our ancestors consumed manna. For food, God provided them bread."
"It is my Father who gives you true bread from heaven," Jesus retorted. The earth is given life by the bread of God that descends from heaven."
They said, "Sir, give us this bread always!"
"I am life's sustenance. I promise that no one who approaches me will go hungry, and no one who has faith in me will ever thirst." Jesus declared
Jews in the throng started to voice their complaints. "Is this the Jesus whose parents we know, the son of Joseph? How is he able to claim to have descended from heaven?"
When Jesus heard this, He responded to them. "Avoid grumbling between yourselves. I will raise the individual on the final day, and no one can come to me unless the Father wills it." "I am the bread of life," declared Jesus once more. In the desert, your ancestors consumed manna, yet they perished. This bread is the one that descended from heaven. You won't perish if you consume it. My flesh is the bread that I shall offer for the life of the world."
Displeased with one another, the Jews asked, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
"You have no life within you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood," declared Jesus to them. I will revive those who eat my flesh and drink my blood on the final day, and they will have eternal life."
"This teaching is difficult, who can accept it?" his students exclaimed upon hearing this.
"Does this offend you?" The words that I have spoken to you are spiritual but true," inquired Jesus. "However, some of you do not hold to faith."
Upon hearing this, a large number of his followers returned home. They had given up on following Jesus.
"Do you also wish to go away?" Jesus enquired of his twelve disciples
"Lord, where are we going? The apostle Peter answered, "You possess the words of eternal life."
