Zacchaeus was a wealthy tax collector. The majority of people disliked him.
Roman tax collectors were well-paid and had a lucrative job.
Jesus was travelling to Jerusalem one day when he passed through the town of Jericho.
Zacchaeus was excited to visit the prophet because he had heard so much about him.
But it was difficult to do so because of the enormous crowd that frequently accompanied Jesus.
To acquire a better view, Zacchaeus made the decision to climb a tall tree.
Zacchaeus was seated on that tree when Jesus happened to walk by it. "Zacchaeus, come down, he said. "I'd want to come over to your place."
As Zacchaeus climbed down from the tree and ran in the direction of his home, he was ecstatic.
He perceived the disapproval expressed by the populace on God's son's visitation to a corrupt tax collector.
Zacchaeus told Jesus, "Lord, I will give you half of my riches to the poor. I promise to repay everyone I have deceived in the past."
"Please accept this", Jesus said to the irate multitude, bringing Zacchaeus eventually to salvation.
