Rejoicing in darkness: Act 16:25-34

Verse 25: Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God at midnight, despite being in prison. The other prisoners were listening to them.

Verse 26: Suddenly, a powerful earthquake shook the prison, opening all the doors and loosening everyone’s chains.

Verse 27: The jailer woke up, saw the open doors, and thought the prisoners had escaped. He was about to kill himself to avoid punishment.

Verse 28: Paul shouted to him, telling him not to harm himself because all the prisoners were still there.

Verse 29: The jailer called for lights, rushed in, and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.

Verse 30: He brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Verse 31: They replied, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Verse 32: They shared the word of the Lord with him and everyone in his house.

Verse 33: The jailer washed their wounds, and he and his entire household were baptized immediately.

Verse 34: He brought them into his house, gave them food, and rejoiced because he and his entire household had come to believe in God

Even though they were detained, Paul and Silas prayed and sung hymns to God at midnight, drawing the attention of the other inmates.


Earthquake: Everyone's chains were released and all the doors in the prison opened as a result of a violent earthquake.


The jailer's response was to commit suicide because he believed the inmates had fled, but Paul reassured him that everyone was still there.


Jailer's Conversion: The prisoner enquired as to Paul and Silas's requirements for salvation. They exhorted him to have faith in Jesus Christ.


Baptism and Joy: The jailer, along with his family, accepted Christ, were baptised, and celebrated as a unit.
