Our gift to God

The Bible emphasises the value of giving and using our gifts to honour God, especially in the King James Version (KJV). A few important lessons are as follows:

1 Peter 4:10-11: “As every man hath received the gift, even so, minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”

Context: In his letter, Peter exhorts Christians to follow the law and use their talents for the good of others.

Justification: This verse emphasizes how crucial it is to handle God's grace with care. It exhorts Christians to help one another by using their gifts. To the glory of God through Jesus Christ, all that is said and done should be done with the strength and capacity that God gives.

2 Corinthians 9:7: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Context: Paul is discussing the fundamentals of giving with the Corinthians.

Justification: Paul emphasises that giving ought to be a selfless deed carried out with joy. More important to God than the actual gift is the mindset that goes into it. This text exhorts Christians to contribute freely, without hesitation or coercion, and in a generous manner.

Romans 12:6-8: “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;”

Context: Paul addresses the variety of gifts found in the Christian community in this section of his letter to the Romans.

Explanation: Paul explains that each person has unique gifts that are bestowed upon them by God's favour. Prophecy, ministering, teaching, encouraging, giving, leading, and displaying mercy are some of these gifts. Each person has a specific gift that they should use joyfully and conscientiously to further the glory of God and the welfare of the community.

Together, these texts impart the lesson that we are to use our riches and abilities to serve others and exalt God. They promote a mindset of accountability, joyous service, and generosity.
