God's Light shine even during the darkness of our lives. (9/11)

Even in the deepest moments of our lives, God's Light remains radiant. The 9/11 attacks serve as a stark reminder of the extreme darkness that can exist in the world. Two hijacked aircraft crashed into the New York City Twin Towers, a third plane struck the Pentagon, and a fourth aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, fell into a Pennsylvanian field on that dreadful day. However, heroic passengers resisted the hijackers, averting additional catastrophe. There were around 3,000 fatalities, and the globe was irrevocably altered.

However, there is still space for God's Light to shine upon us even in the middle of such horror and sorrow. Jesus is always there to give us consolation and hope. As stated in the Bible's King James Version (KJV):

John 1:5: “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” This poem emphasises how heavenly light permeates the earth and represents Jesus as the light that illuminates the moral and spiritual gloom. Even in the dark, it is unable to comprehend or overcome this brightness.

John 8:12: “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Jesus claims to be the light of the world, providing followers with direction and eternal life. His disciples will not experience spiritual darkness because of this light, which stands for spiritual enlightenment and salvation.

Psalms 27:1: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” The psalmist declares his trust in God's watchfulness and direction. He highlights that there is no need to be afraid because God offers strength and safety by referring to the Lord as his light and salvation.

Isaiah 42:16: “And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.” This scripture describes God's promise to help the spiritually blind and to change their lives. He promises He won't leave them behind as He leads them down strange roads, converting darkness into light and straightening crooked paths.

These verses serve as a reminder that even in the depths of darkness, God is always present and can provide guidance and light. The courage and sacrifice made by the passengers on Flight 93, as well as the tenacity exhibited by many during and after 9/11, are examples of the force of light triumphing over darkness. We can find hope and strength in our faith because we know that God's Light will always lead the path.
