From enemy to friend chapter five: The test of time

Both Emily and Parisa's life took distinct turns as the years went by. Emily's passion to promote cross-cultural understanding led her to pursue a profession in international relations. After her return to Iran, Parisa used her experiences to promote the rights and education of women.

Their relationship held firm despite their physical separation. Through phone calls and letters, they stayed in contact and shared their successes and struggles. Their bond grew to be a source of support and motivation as well as a continual reminder of their common experiences and the lessons they had discovered.

But the political atmosphere between their nations became more and more tense. It was difficult for them to visit each other because of travel limitations. Their letters were examined and occasionally withheld. However, they declined to allow these hindrances to separate them.

When Parisa was arrested for her activism, Emily and Parisa's friendship was pushed to the ultimate test. Emily organised her coworkers and friends to start a campaign to get Parisa released. She refused to let her friend's voice be stifled and utilised her position to bring attention to Parisa's predicament.

Emily's steadfast support gave Parisa strength while she was back in Iran. She was imprisoned in terrible conditions, yet she never lost hope. She realised she wasn't alone and that people were listening to her narrative.

Finally, after a torturous year, Parisa was set free. She was emboldened by Emily's unwavering campaign and the international support she had received to return to activism.
