D-Day

Every year on 6th June since 1944, D-Day is celebrated. It is the 80th anniversary. It was a pivotal moment during World War II when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Here are some relevant insights:

Bible and Prayer during WWII:

Soldiers received pocket Bibles before to D-Day along with a letter from US President Franklin D. Roosevelt urging them to read it. For troops, the Bible served as a source of inspiration, guidance, and wisdom.

A few days prior to the invasion, a US Chaplain gave copies of the Bible to the troops from The Gideons International.

President Roosevelt addressed the country via broadcast prayer on the eve of D-Day, pleading for divine direction and courage for the soldiers in their fight to uphold freedom and civilization.

Scripture Readers

Scripture Readers introduced the gospel to British soldiers prior to the Normandy campaign, which had a positive effect on their moral character and mental toughness during the conflict.

Prayer

God, our strength and refuge, give us the power to triumph against oppression and tyranny via Jesus Christ, the bravery to stand up for what is right, and the resolve to collaborate with others as we honour those who braved danger and death in Normandy eighty years ago.
