Bible Verses about Laughter (World Laughter Day)

Ecclesiastes 3:4:

“There is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

This verse recognises that, like crying and grieving, laughter is a normal aspect of life. It highlights striking a balance between various emotions.

Proverbs 17:22:

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.”

Laughter is a heart-healthy drug. It is uplifting and restorative. On the other hand, a broken spirit can result in both mental and physical deterioration.

Job 8:21:

“He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.”

God assures people who put their trust in Him that they will laugh and rejoice. There is always reason to celebrate and laugh, even during trying times.

Psalms 126:2:

“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’”

This verse expresses gratitude for God's benefits and His constancy. Laughing is our reaction to His kindness.

Genesis 21:6:

“Sarah said, ‘God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.’”

God's intervention allowed Sarah, who had been barren, to enjoy the joys of motherhood. Her giggle conveys wonder and gratitude.

Matthew 25:21:

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”

This verse speaks of the joy and reward awaiting faithful servants. Laughter is associated with the joy of being in God’s presence.

Recall that God has given us the gift of laughing. It enables us to connect with people, overcome obstacles in life, and enjoy happy times. There are times to be solemn and in mourning, but there are also times to have fun and celebrate.
