Bible Verses about Friendship

Proverbs 18:24: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” This verse emphasizes the importance of being friendly and the value of a close friend who stands by you like family.

Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Here, we learn that true friends remain loyal and supportive through thick and thin, just as a brother would.

John 15:13: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus spoke these words, highlighting the ultimate sacrifice of love—laying down one’s life for a friend.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” This verse emphasizes the strength and support found in companionship.

1 Samuel 18:1: “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” The friendship between David and Jonathan is a beautiful example of loyalty and selflessness.

James 4:4: “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” This verse reminds us to prioritize our relationship with God over worldly friendships.

Remember, these verses highlight the importance of genuine, supportive friendships and the impact they can have on our lives
