As we know yesterday in America, Donald Trump, the former US president, was shot during a campaign gathering in Pennsylvania.
After receiving medical attention for his wounds at the hospital, he was allowed to leave. The Secret Service, which guards political figures and their families, shot the alleged shooter to death.
In a repeat of the 2020 US election, Mr. Trump will face off against Joe Biden, the incumbent president. In November, millions of Americans will cast ballots to choose the leaders of their nation.
The following texts from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible discuss assassinations and people who have escaped attempts on their lives:
David and Saul: King Saul repeatedly tried to kill David, but David survived each attempt. One notable instance is in 1 Samuel 19:10:
“And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.”
Elijah: Queen Jezebel sought to kill the prophet Elijah after he defeated the prophets of Baal. Elijah fled and was protected by God. 1 Kings 19:2-3:
“Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.”
Paul: The Apostle Paul faced numerous assassination attempts throughout his ministry. One such instance is recorded in Acts 23:12-13:
“And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.”
The notion of divine protection and surviving assassination attempts is emphasised in these lyrics.
