Harriet Tubam was born in America. Her parents were originated from Africa, but they were snatched and taken to America as a slavery. Their master was a white man. Every day they have to work out in the field, while the master just watched them.
She was working in the field, when one of the slaves attempted to made an escape. Harriet didn't chased it. The enslaver threw the iron weight to hit the runaway slave, but it hit Harriet instead. The injury nearly killed her and caused her to have dizzy spell and blackouts for the rest of her life.
One day, she meet a white Quaker woman who told her about the underground railroad. This wasn't real railroad. It was a number of safe homes that hid the enslaved as they travelled north. They would move from station to station at night, hiding in the woods or sneaking into trains until they reached the north and freedom. This what happened to her, she finally made to Pennsylvania.
In 1850 the Fugitive Slave Act was passed. This implied that free states may remove enslaved people and give them back to their masters. Those who had once been in slavery now had to flee to Canada in order to become free. Harriet wished to aid others in reaching safety in Canada, especially her family. As a conductor, she enlisted in the Underground Railroad.
As a conductor of the Underground Railroad, Harriet rose to fame. She oversaw nineteen separate escapes from the South and assisted about 300 slaves in making their escape. She was dubbed "Moses" because, like the biblical Moses, she guided her people towards independence.
I admired Harriet's bravery. To help others, she put her freedom and life in danger. She also assisted her parents and other family members in escaping. She never lost a single slave and was never apprehended.
She died on 10th March 1913.
