A 49 soon-to-be 50-year-old woman was at the hospital wearing a hospital dress. She wasn't sick. She was afraid that she would lose her beauty due to her soon-to-be old age.
The doctor, Doctor Benjamin, also a scientist, made a formula drink. The colour was green and it tasted like lime. She was his first patient to drink this. She drank it and she turned young, a teenage age, and pretty again. She was delighted. Her voice changed.
The next day, she walked into a high school in New York City that she used to go to. As soon as she entered, she flipped her long flowing dark brown hair as she strolled along the hallway. The two boys, in Junior year, noticed her. "Man! This girl is hot!" The black-skinned boy said.
"I'm going to talk to her." Said the white boy with light brown curly hair. He walked toward her. He saw her struggling to open the locker and banged with her fist.
She yelled "Stupid locker! I'm going to sue all of you."
"Here let me help." He gently opened the locker. But instead of thanking him, she complained
"Do you think that I'm too weak to open the locker? Shame on you young man!" She pointed at him and shoved him as she walked past him.
During the lesson, while she was writing, her pencil got snapped. She cursed the pencil. The black boy offered her one of his pencils. But instead of thanking him, she again complained and snapped on purpose and threw it inside the rubbish bin.
During lunchtime, the boys described the new girl. "She is beautiful on the outside." The black boy said
"But ugly on the inside." The white boy continued the sentence.
She overheard their conversation and with her stern face and her furious voice, she said "Ugly?! How dare you talk about me like that!" But then she turned back into her real age and her voice was back to normal. "I'm young and beautiful!"
Well, not anymore. Because she is not young and she is not beautiful due to her angry and cruel behaviour.
Regaining her previous age, the woman stood in the corridor, taken aback by the abrupt change. Her surroundings were bewildered and shocked as they glanced at her. She hastily left the school after feeling a rush of embarrassment pass over her, her mind racing with all that had just transpired.
She insisted on an explanation once she returned to Dr. Benjamin's lab. She yelled, "Why did your formula fail?"
Calm and collected, Doctor Benjamin answered, "The formula didn't fail. It was intended to expose a person's actual character. Your inner self did not alter, even when your outward beauty was restored. Genuine beauty originates internally."
He gave her guidance, and she started to make apologies. She helped patients in the hospital as a volunteer, showing true compassion and understanding. She gradually became aware of a shift in people's reactions to her. Her warmth and friendliness were noticed, and she felt a level of fulfilment she had never known.
After a few months, her physical changes started to mirror her inward change. Her smile was sincere and her eyes were full of friendliness. She had found the actual essence of beauty within herself, therefore she no longer needed the formula to feel attractive.
She ran upon the two high school boys one day while strolling through the park. They were taken aback by her altered attitude and acknowledged her.
"Is that really you?" inquired the boy with black skin.
She nodded and grinned. Yes, that is me. I now understand that genuine beauty originates inward.
The white lad remarked, "You look beautiful," as the other boys grinned back at him.
She felt at ease and satisfied as she thanked them. She had at last realised that genuine beauty was ageless and that age was just a number.
