What is Easter

The most significant holiday in the Christian calendar is Easter. It commemorates the three days following his crucifixion that saw the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy Week is the week before Easter and it consists of the following:

Palm Sunday: commemorating Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on the Sunday before Easter Sunday.

Maundy Thursday: An occasion to remember the Last Supper on the Thursday before Easter Day.

Good Friday: The Friday before Easter Sunday, when people remember Jesus' death by crucifixion.

Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. Following his crucifixion, Jesus's body was removed from the cross and interred in a cave tomb. When Mary Magdalene and a few of Jesus's disciples went to the tomb on Sunday, they discovered that Jesus's body had disappeared. Mary and the disciples saw Jesus later that day, and many others saw him for forty days after that.

There are many Easter symbols, like Easter eggs and Easter bunnies.
