It was night. The winds were howled. Mary, who used to go for trick or treater, when she was quite young, decided to not go, for this year. She was going to hand out some sweets and also add a little gospel message that she had written on a colourful sticky note, attached to the sweets. Bella was the reason behind this. Bella spread the Gospel to her friends and other magical creatures and she wanted them to spread the Gospel around the Greensleeves too.
The doorbell rang. She opened. All the cute children dressed up in fairies and elves cheerfully said "Trick or treat!" They were accompanied by an old lady. Then a little boy, dressed up as a pirate was coming through.
"At your service madam!" he saluted her. "It's my very first Halloween night."
"Since you moved here from Taplow?" she asked
"My very first Halloween night ever!"
One of her friends, Kate, dressed up as a chicken, appeared. "Enough chit-chat. Time for candy."
"Kate. Aren't you a little bit old for this?"
"Too old for free candy?" Kate gasped "Never!"
Mary rolled her eyes and gave her one piece of candy.
Mary chuckled as Kate happily skipped away with her candy. She turned back to the group of children and handed out the sweets, each with a colourful sticky note attached.
“Remember,” she said with a warm smile, “these sweets come with a special message. Share it with your friends and family.”
The children nodded eagerly, their eyes wide with excitement. The old lady accompanying them smiled and thanked Mary before they moved on to the next house.
Just as Mary was about to close the door, she noticed a beautiful figure standing in front of her. It was Bella and she wore a beautiful heavenly dress.
“Mary,” Bella whispered, “thank you for helping spread the Gospel. We must share this message of love and hope.”
Mary nodded, feeling a sense of fulfilment. “It’s my pleasure, Bella. Together, we’ll make sure everyone in Greensleeves hears the good news.”
Bella smiled and happily skipped during the night, leaving Mary with a heart full of joy and a renewed sense of purpose. She knew that this Halloween would be remembered not just for the treats, but for the message of love and kindness that was shared.
As the night went on, more children came by, each one receiving a sweet with a gospel message. Mary enjoyed seeing their delighted faces and hearing their laughter. She felt a sense of community and connection with each interaction.
Later, as the trick-or-treaters dwindled, Mary sat on her porch, reflecting on the evening. The wind had calmed, and the night was peaceful. She thought about Bella and the magical creatures spreading the Gospel around Greensleeves. It was a comforting thought, knowing that they were all working together to share a message of hope and love.
Just then, Kate returned, her chicken costume slightly askew. “Hey, Mary,” she said, plopping down next to her. “You know, this was a pretty great idea. I saw a lot of kids reading those notes. Maybe they’ll think about them later.”
Mary smiled. “I hope so, Kate. That’s the goal.”
They sat in companionable silence for a while, watching the stars twinkle above. It had been a night of fun, friendship, and faith—a night to remember.
