The fear of God - Isa 29:13, 33:5-6; Psa 34:11; Pro 1:7, 2:5-6

Isaiah 29:13: "The Lord says: These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men."

This verse highlights that true reverence for God isn't just about outward actions or words, but about genuine devotion and a heart that seeks Him sincerely.

Isaiah 33:5-6: "The Lord is exalted; He dwells on high. He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure."

These verses emphasise that God's greatness brings justice and righteousness. Having a proper reverence for God provides stability, wisdom, and knowledge. This fear of the Lord is portrayed as a vital foundation for a prosperous and secure life.

Psalm 34:11: "Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord."

This verse is an invitation to learn about the fear of the Lord, implying that it is something valuable and worth understanding.

Proverbs 1:7: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

This verse underscores that true knowledge starts with a reverent respect for God. It contrasts wise people who respect God's wisdom with those who foolishly reject it.

Proverbs 2:5-6: "Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding."

These verses suggest that by seeking and understanding the fear of the Lord, one can gain true knowledge and wisdom, which come directly from God.

Together, these passages teach that the fear of God is not about being afraid but about having a deep respect, awe, and reverence for Him. This attitude is the beginning of wisdom and understanding, leading to a life filled with God's guidance and blessings.
