Today is Thanksgiving Day and it's usually an official American ones and it's about food and drink. But there's more than just eating and drinking, it's giving thanks to God. We should thank Him for everything. It could be Thanksgiving Day everyday. Some people called it Turkey Day, because they ate turkey.
To me, I believe, that God who came down to Earth as a human baby and took the name Jesus, 2000 years ago.
The pilgrims at Plymouth celebrated their first successful corn harvest with their allies. The Wampanox. The first Thanksgiving. It didn't become a national holiday until the civil war. Abraham Lincoln regularly declared national days of prayer and fasting throughout the civil war. And in 1863 he declared the last Thursday in November to be a National Day of Thanksgiving.
What is fasting? A fasting is when you give something up, commonly food, to focus on God. It doesn't have to be food. It can be anything that distracts you from the Love of God.
When Esther, you know, the Queen who saved her people (Jews), was going to her husband, King Xerxes without being sent before. She told the guard to tell her uncle, Mordecai, the one who raised her, to gather together all the Jews of Susan and fast for her. They must not eat or drink for three days, night or day. She and her maids did the same thing. After that, though it was against the law, she went to the King.
