Gospel in Greensleeves Episode 4: A Halloween of Heart and Hope

Elizabeth was invited to a Halloween Party at Katherine's house at night. Elizabeth didn't know what to wear until Jane had an idea.

They arrived at Jane's house. She lived on the farm. Jane brought a big blue chest downstairs from her bedroom. "Inside my chest is my last year's Halloween costume and other memorable things. I tried to let Bella wear it, but she wasn't into it." Jane opened her chest.

"What is it?"

Jane was digging through her chest. "There is it. Ain't she beautiful?"

Elizabeth looked at Jane with confusion.

At Katherine's house, Bella, wearing the costume of Queen Esther of Persia, was wondering where the other two girls were.

"I hope Elizabeth didn't get cold feet," Katherine said

Jane and Elizabeth arrived. The costumes were big enough for two girls to fit in there. It was a yellow horse with a pink mane.

Katherine and Bella were freaked out. Katherine gave her drink to Bella, before walking toward them. "Oh, Elizabeth. I'm sorry she's putting you through this." Katherine was addressing the costume.

"Katherine, this is nice. It's cosy. And no one can see me." Elizabeth said in her quiet voice.

Jane popped out from the back costume. "Good friends always have your back."

Bella accidentally dropped Katherine's drink, but the girls laughed together as they were having fun.

The room filled with laughter as Elizabeth, Jane, Katherine, and Bella carried on enjoying the Halloween celebration. Even though the yellow horse costume was out of the ordinary, the other party guests liked it because of its originality and good humour.

As the night went on, Katherine gathered everyone around for a special moment. “Since it’s Halloween, I thought we could share some stories,” she said, holding up a small book. “This is a collection of parables and stories from the Bible. I thought it would be nice to remind ourselves of the values we hold dear, even on a night like this.”

The girls nodded in agreement, and Katherine began to read the story of the Good Samaritan. As she read, the room grew quiet, and everyone listened intently. The story reminded them of the importance of kindness, compassion, and helping those in need, no matter the circumstances.

After the story, Jane spoke up. “You know, Elizabeth, your costume might seem silly, but it reminds me of how we should always be there for each other, just like the Good Samaritan was there for the injured man.”

Elizabeth smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. “You’re right, Jane. And tonight, I feel so blessed to have friends like you who always have my back.”

Bella, still dressed as Queen Esther, added, “And just like Queen Esther, we can all be brave and stand up for what’s right, even when it’s difficult.”

The girls spent the rest of the evening sharing more stories and reflecting on their faith. They realized that Halloween could be more than just costumes and candy; it could also be a time to celebrate their values and the love they shared as friends.

As the party came to an end, Katherine handed each girl a small candle. “Let’s light these candles as a symbol of the light we bring into the world through our actions and our faith.”

The girls lit their candles, and the soft glow filled the room. They stood together, feeling a deep sense of connection and purpose. It was a Halloween they would never forget, filled with fun, friendship, and a renewed commitment to living out their faith every day.
