Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh

One guy brought a baby a bottle of perfume and his friends got the same baby some sticks of incense and a bunch of gold. They were the wise men and the baby was Jesus. Gold, frankincense and myrrh. The Bible doesn't tell us exactly the significance of the gifts but we can make some deductions.

First the gifts were very valuable. The type of gifts worthy to give a King. The gold, Queen Sheba brought gold as a gift for King Solomon on her visit. Frankincense was an incense often used in worship. In fact it was the incense God said "And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy" (Exodus 30:35). Myrrh had a lot of uses as perfume, anointing oil or even medicine. In Jesus' time, it was a key ingredient in the spices used to prepare a body for burial.

So if your aunt or uncle or grandparents bring you that you might think it's a lousy idea, like getting jumper every Christmas, just thank them and accept.
