Every year on Christmas Eve, people had a Christmas tree and they decorated it and put presents underneath. What is the origin? To surprise you all, it's has a Pagan roots.
Long time ago the Pagans put evergreen branches and trees in their homes to scare away the evil spirits The Romans used evergreens in their worship of the god Saturn. How did evergreens get associated with Christmas?
It started in the Middle Ages and there's a legend story. An Englishman named Boniface who was also a missionary, came across some German pagans who were doing rituals Thor around an oak tree. Thor, the guy with a hammer, one of the Marvel's characters. Thor, the Pagan god of thunder. Boniface wanted to challenge the power of the Pagan gods. So he took out his axe and with one blow chopped the tree into four pieces. The Pagans were convinced that the Gospel was true. They used the fallen tree to build a chapel into which Boniface placed a fur tree sapling which was supposed to symbolize the birth of Christ child. This story is legend, but Boniface was real. He did brings the Pagans to Jesus and it was around this time that the custom of Christmas tree started to spread.
Not all Christians accepted the custom. In the 17th century the Puritans not only banned the Christmas tree, they banned the celebration of Christmas of all together. In 1840s, Queen Victoria put a Christmas tree at the Windsor Castle.
In case you are asking, how could you know that God is okay with that? Who made the tree? God did. What did God says about His creation? He said it was good. So as long you don't worship the tree or use something evil, than it's okay.
