Bonfire Night

Remember remember the 5th of November. Today people of England are celebrating Bonfire Night also known as Guy Fawkes Day. The story take back on 5th of November 1605.

In 1605, Guy (Guido) Fawkes participated in the Gunpowder Plot. His goal was to overthrow King James I and his administration.

Religion was the cause of this. Plotters were Catholic, whereas England was a Protestant nation. They believed that if they assassinated King James I and his ministers, they might impose their will on England and turn it back to Catholicism.

Thus, in order to prepare for a huge explosion, Fawkes and his gang stored 36 barrels of gunpowder in cellars beneath the London Houses of Parliament.

On November 5, however, one of Fawkes's comrades warned his friend who was employed by the Parliament to stay away in a letter.

Once the letter was obtained by the King's allies, the conspiracy was hatched!

The gunpowder plotters were waiting in the vaults, which were broken into by guards. After being detained, they were put to death.

"He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person." (Proverbs 24:8)
