Advent Wreath

When you hear the word advent, you often think of a box and inside there's a chocolate and you eat one every single day until 25th December. That's an advent calendar But this one in this article is different.

Advent is the time we use to prepare for Christmas. It's a time we use to prepare our hearts for Jesus' coming.

Every Church does it a little different but a lot of the symbols are still the same. It starts with a wreath, an unbroken symbolising God's unbroken love for us. Each week they light a different candle that represents a different aspect of God and His love for us. The colour purple represent royalty, Jesus is the King of the kings (maybe because during His time, Israel was under the Roman Empire and in Roman era, only royals wore purple) and it's also the colour of repentance. Pink, the colour of joy.

The first is the prophet scandal symbolising hope. The prophets told the people of the coming Saviour, the hope for all nations. The second candle is a symbol of love. The next candle is the shepherd candle representing joy. The next candle is the angel candle representing peace.

Each week they light a different candle and each week it gets brighter and brighter until on Christmas they light the last one (the white candle in the middle of the wreath).
