A thorn in the flesh - 2 Cor 12:1-10

2 Corinthians 12:1-10: In these verses, the Apostle Paul talks about an experience where he was given "a thorn in the flesh" to keep him humble. Here’s a simplified version:

Paul's Vision and Revelation (Verses 1-4): Paul begins by mentioning that he had extraordinary visions and revelations from the Lord. He describes a man (most likely himself) who was caught up to the third heaven and saw amazing things that he is not allowed to talk about.

The Thorn in the Flesh (Verses 5-7): To prevent him from becoming proud because of these great revelations, Paul was given a "thorn in the flesh." This was some sort of trouble or difficulty that constantly bothered him. He refers to it as a messenger of Satan to torment him and keep him from becoming too proud.

Paul's Plea and God's Response (Verses 8-9): Paul prayed to the Lord three times, asking for this thorn to be taken away. But the Lord said to him, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." This means that God's grace is enough for Paul to handle his troubles and that God's power shows up best in our weaknesses.

Paul’s Conclusion (Verse 10): Paul concludes by saying he is glad to boast about his weaknesses so that the power of Christ can rest on him. He says he takes pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ's sake. For when he is weak, then he is strong because he relies on Christ's strength.

In summary, these verses tell us about Paul's humility despite his extraordinary experiences and his reliance on God's grace to handle his weaknesses. It teaches that even in our struggles, God's strength can be seen most clearly when we rely on Him.
